This site was started because as I have been moving through the adoption procedure for my 3.5 year old daughter from Haiti, I have felt the need to keep her connected to me, although we are in separate countries.

Since she is 3.5, I feel it is very important for her to have things with her to remind her that she has a Mama out there who loves her. My favorite way to always keep my face fresh in her mind is the talking photo messenger and the iron-on t-shirt.

I know there is no way to "heal" the feeling of loss the child will feel in leaving their primary caregivers at the orphanage. But if sending things down to your child so they can see your face, understand a message, hear your voice, and interact with you in any visual and auditory way possible, I think that can only aid the adjustment process.

Not everyone has the luxury of going to visit their child before they come home. If this can help your child "know" you in any way, then it is a success!

A future project would include you ensuring that your Orphanage has a working TV and basic DVD player, if feasible, and sending down short movies of you and your family for your child. These could be compiled to include several families on one DVD for all the kids to see.
